Lord Hayden Peters on The Collectors ABC

Yes, jewellery collectors and those who fancy an odd curiosity – you can now download ABC’s Collectors with my segment (shot in my ‘Victorian Room’) or the whole episiode which has me giving an interview in the studio itself.

I think the whole episode is the best, as you get a little bit more Lord Hayden for your bandwidth, but I’ll let you be the judge:

Link > Direct Segment (MP4)WMV

Full episode with download is coming soon. This one has my in-studio interview!

As a thank you to all, I’ll be having daily updates to Art of Mourning, with some wonderful discussions of historical pieces. Keep visiting for more, join the RSS feed or join the mailing list!

Wow. Your work is and has always been a beautiful tribute to the profound love that’s at the heart of mourning and sentimental jewelry. Please invest in a video camera to produce your own segments for the blog. The pieces are even more breathtaking in person.

Your Mourning Jewellery segment was excellent; You have some stunning pieces! It’s always good to see someone who shares my passion for Mourning pieces. I work in Antique Jewellery & always get a little ‘carried away’ when a customer asks to look at a piece from the Mourning cabinet. Thing is, as soon as I explain the sentimentality behind the piece, they usually walk away…(after all, who wants a photo of a deceased love one, or somebody’s hair these days right?). It upsets me when I overhear customers talk about ‘taking the hair out or replacing the photo’…a shame to think how often this DOES happen with these beautiful pieces.

In any case, I’m a collector and can spend hours admiring my beautiful Georgian & Victorian pieces; hopefully one day I can pass them onto someone else who will appreciate them as much as I do.

Your website is an absolute pleasure to look at, I look forward to seeing more of your little treasures in the future.

    • Many thanks for the kind words, Laura, and I certainly feel your pain and share your understanding as a collector – it’s a hard balance to try and respect the love/honour the jewel vs. the modern fear/apathy towards what only a few generations ago was considered quite common, necessary and beautiful!

At the end of the day, that’s why I’m such a hoarder and will probably live my final years in a cardboard box surrounded by 600 shiny things. When I do go, they all end up in the British Museum or NGV, so I’m just a curator for them at the end of the day.

Brilliant to have you visit the site and enjoy the segment – please keep visiting, as there’s lots more to come! I’ve actually set the blog up to post articles I’ve written all through to next February, there’s a lovely series of Jet and its imitations that I’ve been putting off for years and it came out great.

Love the site! I have a Beautiful Mourning Brooch and unable to get any info on it.I had it appraised and the apprasier was so excited about the piece. He said it is a very unusual piece as it has the gentleman’s picture and hair encased in the back with his name..Jos.Trumbull Barrett 1778-1860 He tested it for gold and it is and apprasied it for approx.$4,000.
